MOUNT PLEASANT – The Iowa Wesleyan College volleyball recruiting class for 2008-09 is coming into form, as three more recruits have signed on to play for the Tigers next year.
New signees for next season include Megan McVey (Fort Worth, Texas), Kirsten Orth (Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Brittany Richardson (Benton, Ill.). The three recruits join earlier signee Natasha Lane (Maquoketa, Iowa) on the list of those declaring their intent to join the Tiger volleyball program this fall in Head Coach Erika Leitzke’s third year.
McVey will come to IWC from Keller Central High School in Keller, Texas. At 5-11, she played both the middle and outside hitter positions in high school, where she was a four-year letter winner and second team all-district her senior year. McVey was born in Omaha, Neb., and is undecided on a college major.
Orth is a 5-8 setter who joins the program after playing three years of varsity volleyball at Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, Wis. She was captain of the team her senior year as the Phoenix finished 23-11 and were a Division 3 regional finalist in Wisconsin. She plans on majoring in Nursing at IWC and is not related to current Tiger Nicole Orth (Jr.-Burlington, Iowa).
Richardson is a junior college transfer from Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Ill., and played in high school at Benton High in Illinois. She is a 5-9 outside hitter who also played libero at Kaskaskia. Richardson will have two years of eligibility left and plans on majoring in Nursing.
“Megan, Kirsten, and Brittany are great additions to our program,” Leitzke said. “Each of them bring solid skills and positive attitudes to the team. I am eagerly anticipating their arrival on campus and the start of the new season.”
The Tigers will report for practice on Aug. 15, with their first match scheduled for Aug. 30 at the Illinois College Invitational in Jacksonville, Ill.
