Davis, Wagner pace track teams at Cornell

        MOUNT VERNON – Andrew Davis (Fr.-Macedonia, Ohio) won the long jump event and both Iowa Wesleyan College track and field squads finished seventh in their respective fields at the Cornell College Invitational held on Saturday.

        Davis posted a mark of 20 feet, 7 inches (6.27 meters) to win the event and post his second straight title in the long jump. He also won the long jump a week earlier at the Central College Invitational in Pella.

        Davis led the Tiger men’s team to a team total of 22 points, seventh among the seven teams participating and one point behind Clarke College for sixth. Iowa Central Community College won the men’s team title with 162 points.

        Besides Davis, Kelvin Brunson (So.-Dooly County, Ga.) led the Tigers with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash and an eighth-place clocking in the 200. Brunson was timed by hand with a mark of 10.8 in the 100 and clocked in at 23.1 seconds in the 200.

        The IWC women finished with 10 points total, all accumulated by senior Corrie Wagner (Iowa City, Iowa). Wagner finished third in the javelin with a mark of 114-8 (34.95m) and placed fourth in the shot put with a best of 37-5 ¾ (11.42m).

        The Tiger track teams return to competition on Saturday, competing in the Dick Young Classic hosted by Grinnell College.
