Wagner throws career best in javelin for IWC at Dick Young Classic

GRINNELL – Corrie Wagner (Sr.-Iowa City, Iowa) set a personal best in finishing second in the javelin event, leading the Iowa Wesleyan College track and field teams at the Grinnell College Dick Young Classic.

Wagner’s best throw in both the preliminaries and the finals was 120 feet, 6 inches as she finished second in the event. Her mark topped her previous best in 2006 and is the third-best mark in school history in the javelin.

Wagner’s second-place finish was responsible for all eight points scored by the IWC women’s team. The Tiger men scored 12 points, placing 12th of 16 men’s teams at the meet.

Andrew Davis (Fr.-Macedonia, Ohio) posted the best finish for the men, placing third in the long jump and just missing his career high set a few weeks ago. Davis topped out at 22-1 (6.73m), less than an inch off his personal best which is the third-best mark in IWC history.

Kelvin Brunson (So.-Dooly County, Ga.) also added a seventh-place finish in the 100, finishing in 11.48 in the finals after his time of 11.17 in his qualifying heat was the second best overall. The Tigers’ 4 x 100 relay team also finished seventh with a time of 44.77 seconds.
