OSKALOOSA – Senior Adam Lindsay (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) made a move up the individual standings but the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s golf team was unable to do the same in the team standings on Sunday and placed fourth in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament at the Oskaloosa Golf Course.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 302 on the final day to remain in the fourth spot in the team standings, finishing the tourney with a score of 1204. St. Ambrose University came from behind with a score of 286 on the final day to win the tourney, while Grand View University and Viterbo (Wis.) University finished second and third, respectively.
IWC stayed in fourth but received a terrific final performance from Lindsay, who shot a round of two-under par 70 on Sunday. He tied with teammate Mark Cleary (Fr.-London, England) for the best final round of any player in the tourney, and Lindsay moved up from fifth after the third round to his final finish of second.
His total of 287 for the tourney was four strokes behind medalist Adam White of St. Ambrose, who finished with a score of 283. Lindsay capped a terrific spring season with his fourth top-10 finish in four tournaments, and his two-day score of 141 in Oskaloosa was also the best score for any player over the final two rounds. By placing in the top five of the conference tourney Lindsay also clinched all-tournament team honors.
Cleary, who did not compete in the first two legs of the tourney, finished fifth over the final two days of the tournament. Cleary’s two-day score of 145 also was his best two-round score of the spring season.
After Lindsay and Cleary, Jeff Zieber (So.-Cameron, Mo.) had the best score on Sunday with a round of 80. Adam Moyers (Jr.-Burlington, Iowa) shot an 82 and Emery McGraw (So.-Loveland, Colo.) rounded out the scoring with an 88. The Tigers have now wrapped up their season and will focus on the 2009-10 season when the majority of this year’s team should return, with Lindsay being the only senior this year.
