Acevedo named MCC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

DES MOINES – Iowa Wesleyan College pitcher Hector Acevedo (Sr.-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference’s Baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced today by conference sports information director Molly Brown.

Acevedo received the award after another dominating performance against Clarke College last week. He allowed two hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out 12 in a seven-inning, 9-3 win over the Crusaders last Tuesday. The win was his seventh of the season and improved his record on the season to 7-1, best on the Tiger team.

Acevedo has won his last four starts for Wesleyan and in all four of those four starts struck out at least nine. For the season he sports a 3.70 earned run average in 10 appearances, including six starts, and has allowed 54 hits and 23 earned runs in 56 innings. Acevedo’s seven wins are tied for most in the conference, and he has struck out 60 to rank third in the MCC in strikeouts behind teammate Justin DeVoe (Sr.-Newton, Iowa) and Micah Spencer of William Penn University.

The Tigers are 25-18 on the season and 10-7 in the MCC heading into a game tonight against William Penn University.
