DES MOINES – Iowa Wesleyan College seniors Jerri Fuentez (Houston, Texas) and Hilarie Droz (Ottumwa, Iowa) have been named to the Midwest Collegiate Conference Softball all-conference honorable mention team for the 2009 season, it was announced Monday night by the league.
Fuentez was named Honorable Mention All-MCC for the second straight year after hitting .333 with 49 hits, 21 runs scored, seven doubles and 18 RBIs. She finished the season with a flourish, batting .487 over IWC’s last 12 games with 19 hits in 39 at bats along with 10 RBIs.
Fuentez completed her career at Wesleyan as a four-year starter and ranks among the all-time leaders in many offensive categories. Her 623 career at bats and 124 career runs scored are both second in school history. She also is third all-time in hits (212), fourth in doubles (37), sixth in RBIs (110) and seventh in triples (eight) and home runs (seven).
Droz finished her two-year career at IWC starting all 104 of the Tigers’ games the past two seasons at third base. This year she batted .299 with a team-high 26 RBIs. She finished with 46 hits, 22 runs scored, eight doubles and two home runs as well as eight stolen bases.
For her career at Wesleyan Droz finished with a .337 batting average with 106 hits and 68 RBIs. She also scored 54 runs and had 23 doubles.
The Tigers finished the 2009 season with a 21-30 record. IWC was 12-16 in MCC play and placed sixth in the conference in the regular season as well as sixth in the MCC postseason tourney.
