Lindsay, Petersen both receive MCC golf honors; Peetz again named Coach of the Year

DES MOINES – Adam Lindsay (Sr.-Aberdeenshire, Scotland), Melissa Petersen (Fr.-Wilton, Iowa) and  Head Coach Ted Peetz all received honors from the Midwest Collegiate Conference as the league announced its postseason awards and all-conference teams today.

Lindsay was named to the men’s all-conference first team for the second straight year, while Petersen was named honorable mention all-conference on the women’s side. In addition, Peetz was named the MCC’s Men’s Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Lindsay capped a stellar career at Wesleyan with his best season yet. He finished with nine top-five finishes and 10 top-10 finishes in 12 events and posted a 73.1 stroke average in 24 rounds. Lindsay also was second in the MCC Championship tourney and picked up medalist honors three times this season.

“‘Scottie’ has been an incredible leader for this team for the last four years,” Peetz said. “He established himself early on in his career as one of the better players in this conference, during his season year he became one of the best in the country. I feel fortunate to have been his coach for the last four years. He has placed his mark on this program.”

Petersen was named the Tigers’ representative on the women’s all-conference team, stepping in as the team’s leader after enrolling in the spring. She led the team with a 99.0 stroke average in four full rounds in the spring, with a team-best round of 95 at the Mount Mercy College Stableford Classic on April 9.

“Melissa has a tremendous upside and I expect her to do some doing things next year,” Peetz said. “She really took a positive approach to the game and I only expect her to get better. She is a wonderful team player and leader.”

Peetz was also named the men’s Coach of the Year, capping a six-year run as the IWC men’s and women’s coach with his second straight honor in that category. The Tigers were on the cusp of the national rankings throughout the season and continued to build a name as a national contender in the NAIA. Peetz will be leaving Wesleyan in July to begin work on his doctorate at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

“Ted is very deserving of this honor voted on by his peers,” said Iowa Wesleyan Athletic Director Mike Hampton. “He has taken our golf programs to a new level in his time here at Iowa Wesleyan. We hate to lose his presence in all capacities on our campus and in his involvement within the Mount Pleasant community.  He will be truly missed as he moves on to pursue his goal of attaining his Ph.D.”
