MOUNT PLEASANT – Iowa Wesleyan College Head Football Coach Jason Smelser has announced the signing of a total of 75 players for the program’s 2009-10 recruiting class.
This year’s class to date includes 17 players from the state of Florida as well as 13 players from Iowa. Among those from Iowa include four graduates from Central Lee High School in Donnellson, plus four more players from the Burlington area.
“This is one of the stronger recruiting classes we’ve seen,” Smelser said of the group. “We have a lot of speed coming in but also more size than in the past. We also have a good mix of junior college kids and high school kids.”
The newcomers will join an IWC program that finished 3-8 last season, 1-6 in the Mid-States Football Association Midwest League. The Tigers will open their 2009 season at home on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. against Trinity International (Ill.) University.
