MOUNT PLEASANT – Olivia Macfarlane (Delta, British Columbia) recently signed with the Iowa Wesleyan College women’s soccer program, Head Coach Ed Heberling has announced.
Macfarlane comes to IWC from Little Flower Academy in Vancouver, B.C., where she played five years of soccer for the Angels. A defensive player, Macfarlane also was the first recruit to sign with the Tiger women’s soccer program for 2009-10.
“The first reason I chose IWC was the way the team plays, the way (Coach Heberling) gives the freedom of the outside backs to move up, that suits my game perfectly,” Macfarlane said. “Also (the direction in which he) wants the team to go, what he expects of the players, and how team success not only happens on the field, but off as well.”
“Olivia will be a great addition to our program,” Heberling said. “She comes from a wonderful soccer background and enjoys being on the pitch. Her work-ethic and desire to play will lead her to success. I look forward to Olivia joining our team and give us some more talent and depth to better compete in the 2009 season.”
Recruiting continues for the 2009 women’s soccer season, and a full list of recruits joining the program will be made available later in the summer. The Tigers finished 4-14-1 last year.
