Four IWC players make 2008-09 NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Four members of the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s basketball team were recently named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court for the 2008-09 school year.

Seniors Jason Garber (Emden, Ill.) and Brett Humpal (Decorah, Iowa) and juniors Mike Lowe (Panora, Iowa) and Patrick Macki (London, England) all were named to the NABC Honors Court, which recognizes basketball players from around the country who meet certain high standards of academic criteria.

The NABC explains its award as recognizing “the talents and gifts these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.” Qualifications for the award include that players must be juniors or seniors on a varsity team, must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better at the conclusion of the 2008-09 academic year, must have spent at least one year at their current institution, and must be members of NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA institutions.

Garber and Humpal both completed their eligibility at IWC this past season, while Macki and Lowe will return for their senior years with the Tigers in 2009-10. Head Coach Alan Magnani’s team finished with a 20-11 record last season and is the defending MCC Tournament champions. The Tigers are scheduled to begin their 2009-10 season Oct. 30 at the Grace University Classic in Omaha, Neb.
