Koloko-Green’s hat trick leads Tigers to 6-0 win over Pomeroys

MOUNT PLEASANT – Fanny Koloko-Green (Jr.-Fremont, Calif.) tied a school single-match record with three goals and the Iowa Wesleyan College women’s soccer team won its second straight match, defeating St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 6-0 Saturday morning at East Lake Park.

Koloko-Green scored twice in the first half and added her third goal in the 55th minute as the Tigers improved to 2-1-1 on the season. She also tied a school record held by eight other players who have scored three goals in a match, the last one being Jessica Ryan (Jr.-Burlington, Iowa) last year on Sept. 10, 2008 against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College.

The Tigers controlled play from the start against the Pomeroys, who traveled from Terre Haute, Ind., to play in Mount Pleasant. IWC scored four goals in the first 24 minutes, including the opening goal just 3:35 in when Jillian Sulcer (So.-Mechanicsburg, Ill.) scored with an assist from Jacki Isham (So.-Stillman Valley, Ill.).

Koloko-Green scored her first goal in the 13th minute, cleaning up a rebound after her initial shot at SMWC goalkeeper April Baranowski was knocked away and scoring for a 2-0 lead.

Serina Reyna (So.-Selma, Calif.) was next to score for the Tigers, finding the back of the net in the 18th minute with an assist from Deandra Franzisi (Sr.-Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario), who would finish the day with a total of five points and also tied a school single-game record with three assists. Franzisi had a hand in Koloko-Green’s second goal in the 25th minute, which made it 4-0.

Koloko-Green scored again with another assist from Franzisi to open the scoring in the second half, and then it was Franzisi’s turn to get in on the goal scoring. The senior tallied with an assist from Kelsey Centner (Jr.-Casa Grande, Ariz.) in the 88th minute to close out the scoring. Franzisi’s goal was her first in 22 matches, as her last goal came in Oct. 2007 in the only other meeting between the two schools, a 5-4 win by St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Cara Arnold (So.-Davis Junction, Ill.) needed to make just one save to get the shutout for IWC. The Tigers outshot the Pomeroys 22-2, including 13-0 in the first half. Arrika Garcia had the only shot on goal for SMWC, which dropped to 1-1 on the season and was coming off a 9-1 win over Spalding (Ky.) University in its opener.

Iowa Wesleyan’s unbeaten streak is now three matches, and the Tigers will try to make it four on Labor Day when they face Illinois Institute of Technology at noon on Monday at East Lake Park.
