Tiger volleyball splits pair of matches over Labor Day weekend in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Iowa Wesleyan College volleyball team took on some solid competition over Labor Day weekend and split four matches at the University of Sioux Falls Empire Bowl Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The Tigers defeated Kansas Wesleyan University (25-20, 25-21, 25-12) in their first match and upended Dakota State (S.D.) University in their final match of the invite, 19-25, 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 15-13. IWC also lost to Dana (Neb.) College and host Sioux Falls, including a five-set loss to Dana on Friday night (25-20, 22-25, 18-25, 26-24, 10-15).

Kendra Zimmerman (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis.) was named to the all-tournament team and had 145 assists over four matches. Megan McVey (So.-Fort Worth, Texas) led the team with 46 kills while B.J. Wagy (Jr.-Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added 35 kills. Katie Leidl (Sr.-Esterhazy, Saskatchewan) had 73 digs and Allegra Tennis (Jr.-Madison, Wis.) had 16 blocks, 13 solo.

IWC now gets ready to open Midwest Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday when it travels to Dubuque to take on Clarke College at 7 p.m.
