Men’s golf opens season seventh at Grand View Classic

ANKENY – Adam Moyers (Sr.-Burlington, Iowa) just missed a top 10 finish individually and the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s golf team opened its 2009 season by finishing seventh of 15 teams at the two-day Grand View University Classic at Otter Creek Golf Course.

Moyers opened with a round of two-over par 73 on the par-71 course, and then finished with a round of 75 on Wednesday to tie for 12th individually. He helped the Tigers finish with a two-day team score of 610, placing seventh overall and fifth among varsity teams at the meet.

Host school Grand View came from behind on the second day to win the tourney with a team score of 571. Iowa State was second and was followed by St. Ambrose, the Grand View junior varsity, and the St. Ambrose junior varsity.

Following Moyers for IWC were Mark Cleary (So.-London, England) and Ryan Grun (Fr.-Kansas City, Mo.), who tied for 33rd with matching scores of 154. Emery McGraw (Jr.-Loveland, Colo.) was right behind in 39th with a score of 155, while Jeff Zieber (Jr.-Cameron, Mo.) tied for 43rd with a score of 158.

The tourney was the first for the Tigers under new co-head coaches Kurt Moon and Josh Nichols, who took over for former Head Coach Ted Peetz, who left IWC to pursue his doctorate degree. Wesleyan will return to play this weekend with the Mount Mercy College Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion.
