Freshman Kiprop finishes high for IWC at Les Duke Invite

GRINNELL – Freshman Kennedy Kiprop (Iten, Kenya) posted his second straight strong individual finish for the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s cross country team as he competed at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College on Saturday.

Kiprop finished 11th individually among a field of 214 runners, finishing the 8-kilometer course in 26:41. He finished 1:24 off the pace of the individual race winner while competing in a field that included runners from 19 different schools.

The finish was Kiprop’s second excellent finish in two meets this season competing for the Tigers, and followed up a fifth-place finish last weekend in his collegiate debut at the Central College Dutch Invitational in Pella. He was one of two IWC runners competing last weekend and this weekend was one of three runners participating for Wesleyan, which did not field a full team at the meet.

Shane Pasanen (Fr.-Petawawa, Ontario) finished the course in 33:41, placing 179th individually. Kyle Neff (Fr.-New London, Iowa) also competed for IWC and finished in 37:17 (202nd individually).

Truman State (Mo.) University was the overall team champion of the men’s meet with 49 points, easily outdistancing Grinnell (87 points) and Cornell College (114). Dan Greeno of Bethel (Minn.) University was individual champion with a time of 25:17.

The IWC women’s team has been hit by several injuries and did not compete at Grinnell.

The next meet on the Wesleyan schedule is the Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., next Saturday.
