MUSCATINE – St. Ambrose University placed four golfers in the top 10 as the Queen Bees edged Ashford University and the University of St. Francis (Ill.) to win the Iowa Wesleyan College Invitational held at Muscatine Municipal Golf Course Friday afternoon.
St. Ambrose finished with a team score of 341 strokes, besting Ashford (347) by six strokes and St. Francis (348) by seven. Ashford posted the meet medalist as Jordan Davis shot a round of 77, five strokes over on the par-72 course, but the Bees came through to win the tournament for the fifth straight year.
Meanwhile, Iowa Wesleyan finished sixth of the six teams with a team score of 397, the team’s lowest score of the season. The Tigers were led by Melissa Petersen (Sr.-Wilton, Iowa), who shot a 49 on the front nine and finished with a 44 on the back nine to tie for 19th individually with a round of 93.
Gabby Combs (Jr.-Macomb, Ill.) joined Petersen among those posting their best score of the season, finishing tied for 24th with a score of 96. Alyssa McClain (So.-Belleville, Ill.) finished with a score of 99 to place 27th, Stevie Schrier (So.-Columbus Junction, Iowa) was 30th with a round of 109, and Jordan Ruschill (Jr.-Mount Pleasant, Iowa) was 33rd with a round of 127 in her first collegiate competition.
IWC continues a busy weekend with the St. Ambrose Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s first round will be at Glynn’s Creek Golf Course in Davenport, while Sunday’s final round will be at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport.
