HANNIBAL, MO. – Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College scored in the eighth minute of overtime to defeat the Iowa Wesleyan College women’s soccer team 4-3 on Saturday.
The Trojans scored when a throw-in was deflected past IWC goalkeeper Cara Arnold (So.-Davis Junction, Ill.), sending the Tigers to their first loss in four matches. Wesleyan dropped to 5-3-1 this season, while Hannibal-LaGrange improved to 3-3 this year.
Fanny Koloko-Green (Jr.-Fremont, Calif.) scored a pair of goals for IWC, including a goal in the second half in the 65th minute to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. HLG tied the score again five minutes later, though, on Fernanda Miacci’s second goal of the match.
Wesleyan’s other goal was an own goal scored by the Trojans in the 51st minute that tied the score at 2-2. Jessica Ryan (Jr.-Burlington, Iowa) added an assist on Koloko-Green’s first goal, scored in the 11th minute to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
Arnold made seven saves for IWC in goal. Morgan Read made two saves in net to get the win for the Trojans. Hannibal-LaGrange outshot the Tigers 26-9 in the match, including a15-6 advantage in the first half as HLG took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Tigers now get ready for Midwest Collegiate Conference play, beginning next Saturday against Mount Mercy College. The women play at 1 p.m., while the two schools’ men’s teams will follow with their match at 3 p.m.
