FAYETTE – Upper Iowa University scored a goal late in the first half and held off Iowa Wesleyan College 1-0 in a men’s soccer match Wednesday afternoon at UIU.
Josh Danielson of Upper Iowa scored deposited a rebound of his own shot in the 43rd minute, just 2:14 before halftime to give the Peacocks what turned out to be the only goal of the contest. Upper Iowa sent the Tigers to their second straight loss and dropped IWC to 2-7 this season.
Troy Osborne (So.-Sydney, Australia) kept Wesleyan in the match with eight saves, helping his team offset a 21-9 advantage in shots for the Peacocks. Michael Roberts (Sr.-St. John’s, Antigua) led the Tigers with four shots, two on goal.
Upper Iowa goalkeeper Andy Youde made four saves to get the shutout win. The NCAA Division II Peacocks improved to 3-6-1 this season.
IWC now prepares for its Midwest Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday when the Tigers host Mount Mercy College. Match time for the men’s match will be 3 p.m. at East Lake Park, and the match will follow the women’s match between the two teams beginning at 1 p.m.
