Iowa Wesleyan College plans musical gala for Chapel re-dedication
Musical performances by College and community ensembles will be featured at the gala event celebrating the re-dedication of the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel. The event will be held Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m.
The Iowa Wesleyan College Chamber Band, under the direction of Dr. David Johnson, will perform “Fanfare for a New Generation.” Mezzo-soprano Margaret Clair will perform “This Place is Mine” from Phantom, accompanied by Dr. Joel Brown. The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Robert McConnell will perform Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.” The combined Iowa Wesleyan College Choir and Mt. Pleasant Chorale will perform “The Promise of Living” from Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land, under the direction of Dr Jamie Spillane with musical accompaniment by Dr. Joel Brown and Heidi Riepe. The musical finale will feature the Iowa Wesleyan College Choir, the Mt. Pleasant Chorale and the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jamie Spillane, performing the chorus from “Magnificat” by Johann Sebastian Bach.
During the program, remarks will be given by representatives of Iowa Wesleyan College, as well as the project architect and construction manager.
The Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel was built in 1893. The auditorium is the largest performing venue in Henry County and one of the largest in southeast Iowa.
The Chapel has undergone a $5.6 million renovation, which began in February 2008.
The musical gala is open to the public at no charge.
