FOREST CITY – Goalkeeper Troy Osborne (So.-Sydney, Australia) made seven saves for his second consecutive shutout and Iowa Wesleyan College did its part to spoil Waldorf College Homecoming festivities with a 2-0 win over the Warriors in men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.
IWC got goals from Michael Roberts (Sr.-St. Johns, Antigua) and Luis Zamora (So.-Selma, Calif.) and won its second straight Midwest Collegiate Conference match to improve to 4-8 overall, 2-1 in the MCC. The Tigers also won by a 2-0 score for the second time this week and did it in mushy conditions at Waldorf, where heavy rains the last two weeks have left fields extremely damp.
Wesleyan scored its first goal in the 21st minute when Roberts scored unassisted to make it 1-0. The score stayed that way until the 58th minute when Zamora scored from far out for his first collegiate goal.
IWC outshot the Warriors 22-13 and had a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. Osborne made six of his saves in a wide-open second half when both teams pushed up and down the field and combined for 20 shots total. Roberts led Wesleyan with seven shots, while Jake Pilger (Sr.-Burlington, Iowa) and Emil Yazdani (Sr.-Buenos Aires, Argentina) both had four shots.
Riley Hoistad made eight saves for Waldorf, which dropped to 4-9 overall, 0-4 in conference play.
Iowa Wesleyan will go for its third straight win on Tuesday when it faces Grand View University at 5 p.m. in Des Moines.
