Maybin, Louis both receive MSFA Midwest League honors

FINDLAY, OHIO - Jaren Maybin (Sr.-Baltimore, Md.) and Jean Louis (Fr.-Wilton Manors, Fla.) of Iowa Wesleyan College have both have received Player of the Week awards from the Mid-States Football Association, it was announced Monday by the MSFA.

Maybin was named the MSFA Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week, while Louis was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. Both awards came after IWC defeated Waldorf College 26-14 on Saturday for the Tigers’ second win of the season.

Maybin had a big first half and rushed for 160 yards while piling up three touchdowns for the Tiger offense on Saturday. He had runs of 53 and 60 yards from scrimmage, the latter going for a touchdown that gave IWC a lead it would not relinquish.

Maybin rushed for two touchdowns and added a touchdown receiving, and his rushing total represented a career high and his sixth career 100-yard game. The senior running back also moved into fifth on the all-time Wesleyan rushing list, passing both Duane Lucas (1975-77) and Derrick Wagoner (1989-90) and moving to 1,645 yards rushing for his career.

Louis had a dominating defensive performance in his first game as a starter for the Tigers. He was in on 10 tackles and had one tackle for loss, ½ sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for the IWC defense. Louis helped the Tiger defense to hold the Warriors to under 200 yards of offense, including just 62 yards in the first half as Wesleyan built a big lead in the game.

Both Maybin and Louis received conference Player of the Week awards for the first times in their careers. The two join Josh Feliciano (So.-San Diego, Calif.) as IWC players to receive MSFA awards this season. Feliciano was named MSFA Midwest Special Team Player of the Week after Wesleyan’s season-opening win over Trinity International (Ill.) University.

IWC is now 2-4 this season, 1-2 in the MSFA Midwest. The Tigers next will face William Penn University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Oskaloosa.
