MOUNT PLEASANT – A pair of Iowa Wesleyan College athletes received Midwest Collegiate Conference Athlete of the Week awards on Monday, as announced by the MCC.
Freshman Kennedy Kiprop (Fr.-Iten, Kenya) was named the MCC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, while Troy Osborne (So.-Sydney, Australia) was named the conference’s Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Both received conference honors for the first times in their careers.
Kiprop became the first IWC cross country runner to receive an MCC weekly honor, receiving the award after finishing fourth of 77 runners at the Grand View University Viking Invitational on Friday. He finished the 8-kilometer race in 27:15, placing in the top-five for the second time in four meets this year.
Osborne received the soccer award after leading the Tigers to two wins last week in conference play. The goalkeeper had a pair of shutouts, making a total of eight saves in wins over William Penn University and Waldorf College, including seven saves in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Waldorf.
Osborne now has four wins this season with a 1.81 goals against average for IWC. The Tiger men’s soccer team is now 2-1 in the MCC and faces Grand View University on Tuesday in Des Moines at 5 p.m.
The IWC cross country teams are in action again on Saturday when they compete in the William Penn Invitational at the Lacey Sports Complex in Oskaloosa at 10 a.m.
