St. Ambrose stays undefeated in MCC with sweep of Tigers

DAVENPORT – St. Ambrose University made the plays when it counted and remained atop the Midwest Collegiate Conference with a three-set sweep of Iowa Wesleyan College Wednesday night at Lee Lohman Arena.

The Queen Bees defeated the Tigers by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20, improving to 5-0 in the MCC (16-6 overall). IWC dropped to 2-2 in the conference (10-9 overall).

St. Ambrose won the final two sets by pulling ahead late in both cases. The Tigers trailed just 19-18 in the second set before the Queen Bees scored the final six points to win the second. The two teams were also tied at 18-18 in the third set before SAU scored seven of the final nine points of the match.

B.J. Wagy (Jr.-Cedar Rapids, Iowa) led IWC with team highs in kills with nine and blocks with three. Katie Leidl (Sr.-Esterhazy, Saskatchewan) paced the Tigers with 19 digs, while setter Kendra Zimmerman (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis.) had 22 assists.

St. Ambrose was led by Catherine Wildner with 12 kills. She also had 10 digs to lead the team. Lauren Aderman led the Bees with 23 assists.

Wesleyan now gets ready for the Dig Pink Classic hosted by Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers open the tourney at 1 p.m. on Friday against Carroll (Mont.) College, the 19th ranked team nationally in the NAIA.
