Forensic Science

The forensic science major is designed as an interdisciplinary program for those students with a strong interest in science and criminal justice. With this degree graduates may be eligible for entry level positions as crime scene or fingerprint technicians or go on to a graduate program in forensic science or other related fields.

Objectives for the Forensic Science Major

Upon completion of the program, the student will:

  • Be able to apply principles of scientific inquiry to problems in forensic science.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with sophisticated, state-of-the-art instrumentation appropriate to the field.
  • Be familiar with the ethical and professional standards that apply to the scientific analysis of evidence.
  • Develop an understanding of the criminal justice system, the rules of evidence, and the legal system.
  • Develop oral and written communications skills appropriate to the presentation of technical information.
  • Be able to apply critical thinking skills to solve problems relevant to the practice of forensic science.
