      The mission of Iowa Wesleyan College is to prepare students to succeed in a changing global environment.  Iowa Wesleyan is a four year liberal arts college providing quality individualized learning experiences that combine the development of the intellect with adaptive life skills.  The college is affiliated with the United Methodist Church with which it shares a commitment to spiritual values, social justice and human welfare.

     The Office of Extended Learning supports the mission of Iowa Wesleyan College by providing access for adult learners; engagement between the College and Community; and empowerment of  individuals through learning.

SUMMER HOURS

       Beginning Friday May 10 and going through Friday August 2, IWC summer hours will go in to effect.  Monday through Thursday 8 am - 5 pm, and Fridays 8 am and closing at noon.

       Monthly e-copies of Night Tracks are available to you in the following two formats:  By email:  You may subscribe to Night Tracks by going to www.iwc.edu/exl and from the Related Links menu, click on Bulletin Board.  At the bottom of the Bulletin Board, you will find the Night Tracks e-subscription commands.  On the IWC website: Go to the Extended Learning pages of the IWC website at www.iwc.edu/exl, and from the Related Links menu, click on Night Tracks to view the current edition.

ATTENTION MUSCATINE-AREA ExL STUDENTS AND ALUMS!

       The next IWC AFTER HOURS event in Muscatine will be held Monday, April 8, 4:30 – 6:30 pm, at the Port City Underground (opened especially for this IWC event).  Former IWC Dean Carol Nemitz will be among the visiting staff!  Come, stay as long as you like for light hors-d’oeuvres compliments of the Alumni Office with cash bar.

NOTES FOR SUMMER 2013 AND 2013-2014 FINANCIAL AID

       May and August Graduates – If you know you will be graduating in May or August and have Stafford loans, you are required to complete the exit counseling online at www.nslds.ed.gov.  You may schedule an individual appointment to meet with Financial Aid to talk about your options of repayment by calling 319.385.6242 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Also, graduates with Stafford loans are required to attend the exit meeting being held on May 3, 2013 in the Science Auditorium at 2 pm.

       Summer 2013 - Summer Schedule is available!  Once you register, the Financial Aid Office will notify you if there is aid or loans available.  If you have not used your yearly eligibility of Pell grant or Stafford loans you may be eligible for some financial aid for summer.  Stafford and Alternative loans are only available if you are enrolled in 6 credits or more.  Summer classes cost $420 per credit hour, add $25 per credit hour for any online course.

       2013-2014 - If you haven’t filed your FAFSA please do so soon.  If you completed one before you filed your tax return, don’t forget to log into FAFSA.gov àMake FAFSA corrections – Update your Financial Information.  If you are given the option to use the IRS Data Retrieval, please do so.  It is much quicker than ordering a tax return transcript if selected for verification.

2013-2014 EXTENDED LEARNING CLASS SCHEDULE COMING!

       Please be aware that the 2013-2014ExL Schedule of classes (online and face-to-face) will be mailed and posted online during the last week of June or first week of July.  If you wish to receive a mailed copy of the schedule, please contact the ExL Office at 319.385.6245 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.        The online schedule will be found with all of our ExL class schedules for the year at www.iwc.edu/exl.  Simply find the Related Links menu and click on Class Schedules to download your very own printable PDF.  Fall class registration will officially begin upon the posting of the schedule.

       Remember to bring your completed Graduating Senior Survey/Career-Alumni Information form with you to rehearsal Friday, May 3.  The Bookstore will be open 8:30 am-4 pm on Friday, May 3 and again 9 am-1 pm on Saturday May 4.  Your balance must be zero to receive your diploma.  Safety/Survival requirement must be fulfilled and documented in the Registrar’s Office in order for you to graduate.  If you have any questions, please call the Academic Affairs Office at 319.386.6205.

       We hope all graduates who have been Extended Learning students will attend the Extended Learning Reception our office is hosting in your honor following Friday’s Commencement Rehearsal.  This will be held from 4-4:30 pm in the Conference area in the Howe Student Activity Center.

COMMENCEMENT AND SUMMER ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE BOOKSTORE

       Commencement caps and gowns can be picked up at the IWC Bookstore beginning April 24, 2013.  Bookstore hours are 8:30am – 4pm Monday through Friday.  The bookstore will be open commencement day, Saturday, May 4th from 9am – 1pm.

       The MBS book company will be here buying back books April 29 – May 2 from 8:30am – 4pm.  This is the best time to sell back your books, however the bookstore will buy back Extended Learning books through May 8th.  (See summer hours below.)               

       Bookstore summer hours will begin May 6th.  The bookstore will be open 9am – 1pm Monday through Friday.  To accommodate Extended Learning students the bookstore will be open additional hours Monday, May 13th and Tuesday, May 14th from 5 – 6pm.  Please call the bookstore with any concerns at 319.385.6478.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM FIELD EXPERIENCE

       All arrangements for Summer and Fall (2013) Field Experiences need to be made by April 26, 2013; this includes all paperwork and related final approval.  Preliminary paperwork is due in the Field Experience office by Thursday, March 28th.  These deadlines and other pertinent information can be seen at www.iwc.edu/fe, where they have been posted for some time.

ONLINE CONSORTIUM OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES (OCICU)
COURSE DATES – REGISTRATION DEADLINES

       Reminder: Summer OCICU courses are offered two times during the summer and begin and end on the following dates: April 29 to June 23; July 1 to August 25.  Registration deadlines for those courses are April 16 and June 18, respectively.  PLEASE NOTE: Because these courses do not follow the published IWC Summer Term dates, they may not be covered by Federal/State Financial Aid.

TO ACCESS FINAL GRADES, CHECK ON FINANCIAL AID OR REVIEW BILLING ISSUES,
YOU MUST HAVE AN IWC EMAIL ACCOUNT
TO ENROLL IN ONLINE COURSES, YOU MUST HAVE AN IWC EMAIL ACCOUNT

       You may obtain your username and password, by simply finding us on the IWC website at www.iwc.edu/exl, from the Related Links menu, click on Username + Password and follow the instructions.

       Once you have your username and password, you can find your final course grades (when they have been posted) by accessing the IWC Student Portal.  On the IWC homepage at the top is a Student Portal Login button that you will click.  Fill in your username and password and click the academic term you wish to view. 

       Please check your IWC email account at least once a week, as there may be important announcements from the Extended Learning Office, faculty, IWC Business Office or Financial Aid that pertain to you.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING ONLINE COURSES

COURSE SECTION CODE: 55 = IWC MOODLE COURSES

1 – Go to the IWC homepage:  www.iwc.edu
2 – Click the “Online Programs” button (upper right section)
3 – Click the “Class Access” button (upper right section)
4 – Login using your IWC email (without the @iwc.edu) and your IWC password
5 – If you haven’t taken a Moodle course before, please click on the “Getting Started” button and complete the brief tutorial
6 – Click the course you are registered for. 

COURSE SECTION CODE: 1ZOL = OTHER IWC ONLINE COURSES

During the first week, your instructor will contact you with directions for accessing the course.

1 – Go to www.ocicu.org
2 – Click “Student Course Access” (left column)
3 – Scroll down and select Iowa Wesleyan College and click “GO”

– Find and click the course you are enrolled in (OCICU#/IWC# ~ Example:  ACC201/ACTG210)
5 – Click “Access this Course” and follow instructions from there.

You MUST have your OCICU Username and Password in order to log in.  If it is your first OCICU course, your username and password will be emailed to you shortly after you are registered for the course.
