ABOUT BUSINESS FACULTY
Mission + Philosophy of the Division of Business

Our Mission

The mission of the Business Division at Iowa Wesleyan College is to provide a quality liberal arts education with an emphasis on the world of business. Students enrolled in the program will major in Business Administration. Minors are also available in Business Administration and Economics for the non-business student.

The faculty of the Business Division shares a teaching philosophy that is focused on providing learning opportunities that help to develop future business professionals and positive, effective citizens. This philosophy is shaped by the Iowa Wesleyan College’s Life Skills of valuing, communication, problem-solving and social effectiveness. Students will obtain a balanced mix of liberal arts education, and a specialization in one or more business concentrations. To insure that students have the opportunity to experience working in their area(s) of academic concentration, all students will complete an approved internship as part of their academic requirements.

Life Skills are incorporated into the coursework offered by the Division. Students are challenged to develop and test their value systems by analyzing and discussing current ethical dilemmas in the business world. Individuals working in the business world must be able to recognize potential solutions to the daily problems presented to leaders in business. Problem solving is therefore a central feature of each course. Social skills are developed through formal assignments and more informal processes of class discussions, outside of class meetings with faculty, other students and student organizations. Students develop their oral and written communications skills in support of the other Life Skills through assignments and less formal interaction of all types.

All majors in the Division of Business will receive the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.
