Service Learning Projects

Students, working with the Director of SL, choose their own projects.  If a student registers for an academic course containing an SL component, the student will be fulfilling a portion of their units based on the extent of the SL experience.  Allotment of units will be approved by the Director through consultation with the faculty member. Students are encouraged to choose projects that will expose them to new kinds of personal experiences. (Only the Director of SL is authorized to approve projects.)  Students have completed SL projects in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, churches, shelters, camps and youth programs. Think about the needs of our global community and then act on them by bringing forth proactive change in the area(s) you serve and learn.

Students can begin their projects in the freshman year, with the goal of completing all units before their senior year to focus on field experience, clinicals, and student teaching.  Extended Learning and transfer students should begin counseling on their projects as soon as they become degree candidates.
